Gordon Brown has called for swift action to secure the release of a British couple kidnapped by pirates when he held talks with the president of Somalia.
Paul and Rachel Chandler, from Tunbridge Wells, Kent, were captured by Somalis while sailing from the Seychelles towards Tanzania in October last year.
Downing Street said the Prime Minister raised their case when he met President Sharif Ahmed, who is visiting the UK.
"The Prime Minister welcomed an assurance from the president that his government was doing everything within its power to ensure their safe and swift release," a spokesman said.
"He made clear that the Chandlers should be urgently reunited with their family.
"They agreed to continue to work closely together to secure this outcome."
